The North Island Endurance Series will enter its 7th season in 2020 so let’s talk about the previous winners of Class 1 3501cc & Over
2014 – In the first year of the North Island Endurance Series Bruce Kett & Shane Johnson won Class 1 & the overall 1Hour race in their Chevrolet powered Ford Falcon BA TL spec NZV8 Peter Begovich finished second in a Holden Commodore VY TL spec NZV8 & Bronson Porter in a Super Six Holden Commodore VN came home in third while in the 3Hour Steve Doughty & Richard Ryan won Class 1 in their Holden Commodore VY TL spec NZV8 with David Dovey & Andrew Bowler finishing runner up in another Ford Falcon BA TL NZV8 with Bruce Kett & Shane Johnson coming home in third using the same car they used in the 1Hour
2015 – Warwick Mortimer won Class 1 for the 1Hour in 2015 in his BMW M3 E46 V8 with Peter Begovich coming home second in his Holden Commodore VY and Bruce Kett & Shane Johnson finished third in their Ford Falcon BA while in the 3Hour South Islanders Darryl Barrett & Hamish Frew finished first in their V8 powered Mazda RX7 with David Dovey & Matt Dovey in their Ford Falcon BA coming home in second while Bernard Verryt & Aaron Harris finished second in their Ford Mustang
2016 – Rick Cooper took top prize in Class 1 in 2016 driving his Ford Mustang with Barry Kirk-Burnnand finishing second in his Twin Turbo BMW 135 E87 with Peter Begovich coming home in third driving his Holden Commodore VY. In the 3hour the International Motorsport prepared Nissan GTR R35 of Stephan Farmer, Dean Farmer & Tim Martin came home in first with David Dovey & Matt Dovey finishing second with South Islanders Darryl Barrett & Hamish Frew finishing third in their V8 powered Mazda RX7
2017 – Matt Griffin won Class 1 for the 1Hour in 2017 driving the Mortimer Motorsport owned BMW M3 E46 V8 with Rick Cooper taking out second in class driving his Ford Mustang while Bruce Kett would take the last spot on the podium driving his Chevrolet powered Ford Falcon BA NZV8 while in the 3Hour South Islanders Darryl Barret & Hamish Frew won Class 1 in their V8 powered Mazda RX7 with Andre & Warwick Mortimer finishing second in their BMW M3 E46 GTR and Deon Cooper & Alexandra Whitley came home in third while using two cars they started in their SsangYong Actyon Ute fitted with a 7Litre Super Tourer engine for Rounds 1&2 while they would race Rick Cooper’s Mustang for the final Round
2018 – Cameron McCormack would win Class 1 & Overall honours for the 1Hour in 2018 driving his Porsche 996 with Matt Griffin again driving the Mortimer Motorsport owned BMW M3 E46 V8 came home in second & third overall while Jake Stoneman finishing third in Class 1 driving a Ford Falcon FG V8 Ute while in the 3Hour Bruce Kett & Shane Johnson won Class 1 & took 4th overall driving their Chevrolet powered Ford Falcon BA with Andre Mortimer & Glen Chappell finishing second in Andre’s BMW E46 M3 GTR while in third was series rookies Wayne Leach & Paul Burborough finishing third driving a BMW 235i
2019 – Brock Timperley won Class 1 for the 1Hour driving a Ford Falcon BA TL spec NZV8 for Round 1 while stepping up to another Ford Falcon BA for Rounds 2&3 only this car would be on equal pace to a V8 Super Tourer with Andy Duffin taking out second in this Triple Rotary Mazda RX7 with Deon Cooper finishing third in his SsangYong Actyon Ute fitted with 7Litre V8 Super Tourer engine. While in the 3Hour the newly imported Race Lab/Golden Holmes Audi TT VLN of Shane Helms & Rob Bolland dominated with taking out all three races with Wayne Leach & Paul Burborough taking out second in their BMW 235i while series rookies Todd & Rhys Bawden finished third in their Online Contractors sponsored BMW 235i
